Bushwick, Brooklyn for Ecuadorian Food

ROADTRIP!! Not quite, but close enough! I went on a scavenger hunt to Brooklyn to find an authentic home cooked Ecuadorian meal. LITERALLY.
After a couple of detours and almost getting lost, we finally arrived at our destination- 1414 Greene Ave. I read about this place from BushwickBK.com. This woman serves only on weekends right out of her kitchen in her house. She has a table with some seats set up outside on her front porch. I know it sounds sketchy but I couldn’t resist and just HAD to go check it out. Curiosity did kill the cat… (is that how that saying goes??) WELL, I SURVIVED! I’ve had Ecuadorian food before (thanks to my special friend); and this was extremely authentic. If you don’t believe that I am credible enough to make that statement than take it from a true Ecuadorian himself who experienced this with me!
There were 3 dishes and we bought all three. Since the rain was on and off, and the neighborhood isn’t exactly your typical Upper East Side, we decided to get the food to go and eat in the car.

The woman packing our order. She thought it was for 4 people, but it was really just for two.

We got one of each item on the menu. Two of the ceviche.

Pernil - pork over rice with onions, cilantro, and tomatoes.

Pernil #2 - added the home cooked Ecuadorian style beans and hot sauce.

Ceviche- large shrimp in citrisy tomato based soup.

Encebollado- soup made of albacora (a type of tuna), yuca, tomatoes, onions, and sprinkled with lemon juice. I threw in roasted large kernal corn.
WHEW! After consuming all that food, it was time to go. As we are driving off on Cypress ave, the rain starts to come down again. Stopped at a red light, we see what appears to be a fruit stand. We make a U turn to check it out since we were dying of thirst and desparately needed a beverage. Jean goes off and comes back with 3 homemade juices for us to try.

Guava, Tamarind, and Mango
And THAT was the end of my Sat. morning. It was an enormous breakfast and just as good as I anticipated it to be. Sooooo satisfactorily happy. =)
