Wine 30

This is my new fav wine bar. Excellent service and shockingly great food. (Not even close to the “bar food” category) MUST VISIT, and call me out to join! I live a block away. =)
The very first time I walked past this place, I knew I had to check it out and I knew that I would fall in love with it. The interior design is beautiful. Even if you don’t want wine or great food, just pass by it. It is absolutely gorgeous and I bet you’d want to go in. It sells itself, and I am so glad I found it. I have to say that I am even honored to be posting about Wine 30.
Where do I even begin?!?!?!?
The owner, Volkan Muti, is extraordinary. Here’s a short interview below: (my first!!)
Some backround information- Wine 30 opened this year on May 1st., only serving food. But Mr. Muti had much bigger plans for his restaurant. By July 16, he obtained a liquor license, making it a wine bar with off the hook, absolutely delish food. His business idea, “I just wanted a wine bar with good food”. Who would have thought?!?!? BRILLIANT! Just brilliant!!!
When the place was designed, he made sure that the kitchen had decent space. It was a huge factor for him that the kitchen would be sufficiently and adequately equipped so that his customers could enjoy great tasting food as well as the wine. I personally think that this is important. I mean, yeah he could have stretched the bar and made it longer but then who cares?? It would have just been another wine bar. Huge plus here! And it makes perfect sense as to why his dishes are so good. He cares what goes in your belly, and thus the emphasis in the kitchen space. One more thing, if you aren’t a wine person, you probably will become one after coming here.
So, Volkan, who makes the wine selection? I’ve had great wine here, and as a new amateur wine lady, I love it.
I make the wine selection.
Okay, and you are the owner, right? (I had to make sure who I was talking to)
Yes, I am the owner and actually I built this place; I am the general contractor. I’ve even kept these two old soda cans that I found in this building. (very neat!!)
So tell me about the antique cork screw, which seems to dominate the decor of the place.
Well, I found this corkscrew behind a brick, in the back of a restaurant I used to managed on 3rd ave. This building used to be a funeral home, whore house, some Japanese restaurant, and then a restaurant bar. It says 1885 on the cork screw. (My first time here, he opened our bottle with it and I was just mesmerized)

Soda cans found in the store during the renovation/construction. They are sitting behind the bar today.

1885 inscription… an antique that’s part of history. What a jewel.

Seared Hanger Steak, Lemon Tahini, pickled red onions.

Garlic-ginger Shrimp, Cilantro-lime dipping sauce.

Beet greens, Garlic, Serrano, Garlic Sausage

Carmelized onion, Melted Gruyere / Roasted beets Walnuts, Oregano, Feta / Roasted Corn, Black beans, Grafton Cheddar, Lime

Spicy Tomato and Pepper Dip

This piece of art truly shows the mechanics of his corkscrew. The wood shown is also the same wood he used to furnish his wine bar.

First thing that caught my eye as I walked in. This chalkboard won’t be washed for awhile…maybe never!

Volkan Muti, at his very own ——> Wine30. A MUST TRY.
So, what gives? Fabulous wine (Nebbiolo- great choice thanks to my “date”), spectacular service, and gorgeous, unique decor to set the perfect ambiance. The choice is yours, but do call me out to join or leave a comment (I like to know that I’m right at least some of the times)
