IL Cantuccio- Tuscany’s Specialties

Biscotti, the biscuit we all love to dunk into our coffees, teas, or hot chocolates. More correctly known as Biscotti di Prato, or Cantuccini.

One night, I accidentally stumbled upon this cute store front in the west village which had displayed an enormous sized focaccia bread in the windows luring any eyes bestowed upon it.  Then, I see a woman through the windows, gently slicing up pieces of fresh biscottis and placing them delicately into wooden baskets. So, what do I do? Of course, I go in and see what she’s selling. She immediately offered a piece of her “work”. It was an apricot biscotti, and after my first bite, I was sold. Call me easy, but I was impressed and all I wanted was to try every single type of biscotti that she had to offer. I remember there was hazelnut, almond, fig, prune, chocolate, apricot, and I think I also bought a bruttibroni. She said it would be magnificant and when I asked what it was, she said I didn’t need to worry. Mysterious? Yep, but I took it anyway and it was an almond paste dough that was crispy on the outside with a chewy soft inside. Magnificent!

I can not wait to go back to try other things on the menu, such as pizzas, and bread! Lots of it! Especially the focaccia!
